The authors caution that their research does not prove that drinking tea reduces the risk of type 2 diabetes, but does suggest that drinking tea likely contributes. He also told that along with drinking tea, the risk of diabetes depends on many other lifestyle factors.
Lee said in a newsletter that more research needed to be done to determine how black tea, green tea and oolong tea might affect the risk of type 2 diabetes.
“Special constituents in tea, such as polyphenols, may reduce blood glucose concentration by inhibiting the activity of glucosidase, but a sufficient amount of the bioactive substance is needed to be effective,” Lee said.
